What to look for in a barbell?

The first thing that you need to decide when choosing a barbell;

What is its purpose?
Will I do overhead drops?
Will I use it solely on the bench press?
Do I have clients using it that are beginners?
What type of training do I enjoy?

There are several factors that need to be considered. We have barbells that suit various needs, and here is a quick runthrough of what you should be looking for.

Olympic lifters and Crossfitters will need a bar with good whip, comfortable knurling, and a needle bearing system in the sleeves. This helps the sleeves spin smoothly, and also absorbs the impact during drops, which in turn increases the life of your bar. Beginners looking to start with the conventional lifts: Deadlifts, Squats and Bench press, can consider a bar with brass bushes in the sleeve, these do not absorb the impact of drops very well, hence making them ideal for these three lifts.
